TMJ Charts: No Doubt Returns to #1

A great week for No Doubt who score their second #1 song from their new album Push And Shove. The title song inches up one spot to take the crown while Lana Del Rey's Radio falls to #3 after just one week on top. No Doubt is now the second act to score more than one #1 song on the chart during 2012 after Gotye. Their song Settle Down, went on to spend 5 weeks at the top and currently stands at #19.

Push And Shove music video

And speaking of Gotye, he's actually about to score a third chart-topper this year now that Save Me moves up to #2 in its 15th week on the chart. It's currently a strong contender and the only song gaining points inside the Top 10 besides Clique by Kanye West, Jay-Z and Big Sean which is up to #7 and Young The Giant's surprising move to #9 with God Made Man. Good moves as well for The Gaslight Anthem who see "45" leap to #15, Sloom by Of Monsters And Men which is up to #16, Bruno Mars' Locked Out Of Heaven is up to #24, Imagine Dragons jump big to #25 with It's Time and Metric's Youth Without Youth which jumps 55 to #32. But the Biggest move, as well as Greatest Gainer of the week, belongs to Nelly Furtado whose Spirit Indestructible is up 59 spots to #33.

The week's Highest Debut is also this week's Power Play track, and it goes to Rihanna, scoring her 16th chart entry as lead artist with Diamonds. The song debuts at #65. Kid Cudi also returns to the chart with Just What I Am featuring King Chip at #82, and so does Ke$ha who scores her 7th chart entry with Die Young debuting at #99.

The Recurrent Songs chart has a new song at the top and it's Swedish House Mafia's Miami 2 Ibiza making a big jump to #1 from last week's #40 position. And the Albums chart celebrates its 300th issue with a first for Lana Del Rey who finally reaches the top with Born To Die after 38 weeks on the chart, most of them inside the Top 5.

Jim Jones Takes Over

An unexpected turn in the race for #1 this week as rapper Jim Jones jumps eight spots to land directly at the top of the chart with a remix of Perfect Day. This version, is mixed by Clinton Sparks and DJ Snake, and does not seem to be official as I haven't found much info about it. It's Jones' second charted song. The first one was We Fly High from 2007. It also marks the return of the rhythmic genre to the top of the charts since January of this year when All Of The Lights by Kanye West featuring Rihanna and Kid Cudi ruled the chart for 4 consecutive weeks.

The greatest gainer of the week is Adele's Rolling In The Deep which now joins the list of possible chart-toppers by climbing to #10 in its third week. Not bad for her first and only charted song so far. The biggest jump belongs to Marina & The Diamonds' Numb which skyrockets 64 places to #20 this week. That's Marina's 7th Top 20 hit.

Two power play songs are also re-entries this week. First at #92 is Far East Movement's 2gether featuring Roger Sanchez and Kanobby and Thirty Seconds To Mars returns at #93 with Hurricane featuring Kanye West.

And its one of those rare occasions: There are no debuts on the chart this week.

Kanye West, Rihanna & Kid Cudi › All Of The Lights

If you're familiar with this Kanye West song you should know it features a whole lot of other people and for some reason only Rihanna and Kid Cudi made it into the video. Big up for Kid Cudi and his sorta Gold Digger dance during his cameo. Directed by veteran Hype Williams, the All Of The Lights video is full of flash, color and should really have a disclaimer for possibly causing seizures. Really. Expected a whole lot more for this one, not only because of the amazing array of artists featured, but because even the small plot got lost in all the lyrics from the song flashing on screen (what was that all about?), not to mention the unforgivable edit-out of one of the song's stand-outs: Fergie's whole verse! Such a HUGE disappointment.

Just recently, All Of The Lights went on to spend four weeks at the top of my chart starting January 8th. The song is currently back up one spot to #2 on this week's chart issue.

Kanye & Co. Reign For A 2nd Week

In fact, there's no movement for this week's Top 3 songs with Kanye West leading for a second week with All Of The Lights. Drake stays at No. 2 with Unforgettable and Cee Lo Green remains at No. 3 with Bright Lights Bigger City.

Four new entries to the Top 10 and one return shake things up a bit at the higher end of the chart with the Kanye West / John Legend Blame Game collaboration landing at No. 5 as Greatest Gainer of the week, Kid Cudi's Marijuana jumps to No. 6, Ellie Goulding storms up to No. 8 with Animal and Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy lead track, Derezzed, bows at No. 10. The return belongs to Kanye West Lost In The World collaboration with Bon Iver.

Obsessions by Marina & The Diamonds is determined to go very high on the chart as it scores the Power Play of the week for a second time and is also the Highest Jump, breaking the Top 50 and landing at the No. 43 position. Only two - rather weak - debuts mark this week's new entries, led by Katy Perry's Not Like The Movies at No. 93 and N*E*R*D's It's In The Air at No. 96.

Year-End Top Songs 50 - 26

A little delayed today, but the third chapter of this year's Top 100 Songs of 2010 Countdown is ready! Lots of surprises here as we see many recent songs make it in the 50 - 26 range including P!nk's Raise Your Glass, Ke$ha's We R Who We R, Brandon Flowers' Only The Young and Kid Cudi's REVOFEV, to name a few. Another highlight? La Vida Bohème gets 4 spots out of these 25 (that's already 6 songs in the Top 100 and we're not even done!)

In case you've missed it... Here's songs 100 through 76 and 75 through 51.

Year-End Top Songs 75 - 51

And the countdown continues... We're now halfway down on The TMJ Charts Top 100 Songs of 2010 with the 75 to 51 positions. This one includes The Chart's current No. 1 song by Drake and Young Jeezy, Unforgettable, at No. 75 and double spots for Interpol, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Timbaland and La Vida Bohème.

Don't know what this is all about? Read yesterday's post. More tomorrow, but for now check these out:

Year-End Top Songs 100 - 76

Starting today, and for the next four days, I'll be presenting you The TMJ Charts Top 100 Songs for 2010! With the last chart issue of the year posted this past Saturday, I was finally ready to build these year-end charts. There'll be 25 songs posted each day until next Thursday when I'll be posting the Top 25.

There was a lot to choose from, with 511 different titles charting all throughout 2010, but these are the Top 100 based on the accumulated points for this year only (songs charting since 2009 are eligible). The stats are based on chart performance for 2010 as well, and titles with asterisks mean they're currently charting on the weekly Top 100.

Kid Cudi Jumps To #1, My Chemical Romance Returns

This is an unexpected turn, and not because Kid Cudi is stranger to begin at the top of The Chart as he has previously scored two number ones with Heart Of A Lion (3 weeks) and Hyyer (1 week), but because of how fast he got there and how he left the competition behind. Previous chart-topper The Show Goes On by Lupe Fiasco steps to No. 2. The song had been making strong rounds for the past month but falls short to this week's surprising No. 1, Ashin' Kusher, the third from Kid Cudi and the first from his new album Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager.

'The Show Goes On' For A 3rd Week

Lupe Fiasco is way ahead of the competition and goes on for a third consecutive week at the top of The Chart this week with The Show Goes On. And its looking promising for the song to stay on the top for a while because runner-up N*E*R*D is about one-hundred points behind with I've Seen The Light / Inside Of Clouds. Brandon Flowers keeps climbing, this time to No. 3 with Only The Young and Kid Cudi finally goes Top 10 - twice - as REVOFEV and Ashin' Kusher sit at No. 4 and No. 7 respectively. It's also been a bit of a struggle for P!nk to rise in the chart after a big debut 8 weeks ago, but she finally cracks the Top 10 as Raise Your Glass jumps five places to No. 6.

Lupe Fiasco Scores a 2nd Week at No. 1

The Show Goes On for Lupe Fiasco as he scores a second week at the top of The Chart with his first single from the highly-anticipated Lasers album, due out early 2011. The current lead for the song is too high for it to leave the top anytime soon, so it may very well become Lupe's longest-charting No. 1 so far. Following at No. 2 is another fast-rising track: N*E*R*D's I've Seen The Light / Inside Of Clouds. It could've easily become their first chart-topper but its fate will depend on how long it'll take for Lupe's track to start slowing down. Another highlight for the Top 10 is a new peak for Brandon Flowers' Only The Young. The second single from Flamingo sits now at the No. 5 position. The rest of the top 10 is pretty much stationary except for a re-entry by Interpol with Try It On.

Lupe Fiasco Goes On To No. 1

It's only been two weeks since its debut but Lupe Fiasco gets his second chart-topper with The Show Goes On, after jumping from last week's No. 7 position. This marks the rapper's second No. 1 on The Chart. His first came on 2008 with the album track Intruder Alert featuring Sarah Green, which stayed on top for 4 consecutive weeks. This ends King Of Leon's three-week reign at the top with Radioactive which now settles for the No. 2 position. Meanwhile, Ke$ha gets a new peak of 3 for We R Who We R, N*E*R*D get their second top 10 hit from Nothing now that I've Seen The Light / Inside Of Clouds jumps to No. 8 and Brandon Flowers gets his first as a solo artist with Only The Young coming in at No. 9.

Beatles Albums Dominate iTunes Charts

I know I made a joke about it earlier today but it's just because I don't understand Apple's monopoly over the digital music sales in the United States. In the end, joke or not, the Beatles will be the Beatles and their music catalog, within hours of being made available on the iTunes Store, is already making its mark in this digital era. It'll be interesting to see now how this move will impact the U.S. music charts.

From RollingStone.com:
A day after The Beatles' catalog arrived on iTunes, the band's albums are storming the iTunes chart. As of 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, all 17 albums made available on Tuesday were in the top 50 of the digital-music store's albums chart — and three of those full-lengths — Abbey Road, The Beatles (a.k.a. The White Album and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band — were in the top 10. The band's career-spanning box set, which sells for $149, sat at No. 11.

iTunes doesn't release exact sales data for its charts, which are updated frequently throughout the day, and digital-album sales from all online merchants, including Amazon and other sites, are broken out separately from overall album totals by Nielsen SoundScan. First-week numbers for the Beatles' reissues won't be officially available until next Wednesday, when SoundScan will release sales totals for the week ending November 21.

On the singles side, the highest-selling Beatles song as of 9 a.m. Wednesday was "Here Comes The Sun," which was at No. 20, behind current hits like Ke$ha's chart-topping "We R Who We R" and Willow's "Whip My Hair." "Let It Be," "In My Life," "Blackbird" and "Come Together" were the only other individual Beatles songs in the top 50 at that time.

In other chart news, Susan Boyle's The Gift debuted atop the Billboard 200 on the chart released today. The second album from the British singer, who rose to fame on the Simon Cowell-assisted "Britain's Got Talent," sold 318,000 copies in the week ending November 14. The Gift contains the covers of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," as well as her take on Christmas standards like "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "The First Noel." Also debuting on the albums chart were Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon II (No. 3, 169,000 sales), the pop-hits pileup Now 36 (No. 4, 89,000 sales), Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits (No. 5, 88,000), Reba McEntire's All The Woman I Am (No. 7, 64,000) and Cee-Lo Green's The Lady Killer (No. 9, 41,000).

On the digital tracks chart, the cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" that was performed during the November 9 episode of "Glee" debuted at No. 1, selling 214,000 copies for the biggest first-week Soundscan total for a song from the Fox hit show. The Black Eyed Peas' new single, "The Time (Dirty Bit)," also debuted on the chart at No. 3, selling 170,000 copies.

Kings Of Leon Go for a 3rd, Lupe's Big Debut

Even with all the competition this week sees another reign by rock band Kings Of Leon, who now have their longest running No. 1 song on the chart as Radioactive stays on top for a third consecutive week. Following close behind is Marina & The Diamonds who make it to their all-time peak of No. 2 yet again but this time with their single Shampain. That'll probably end B.o.B's chances of going to the top with the Rivers Cuomo collaboration, Magic, which goes down a notch to the No. 3 spot. But things get more interesting thanks to a huge debut by Lupe Fiasco as The Show Goes On enters directly at No. 8, giving him his 18th overall chart entry and his 7th top 10 song. It will most likely become his second chart-topper in the weeks to come.

Susan Boyle & Taylor Swift Battle for U.S. No. 1

It's not exactly the type of battle I'd be anxiously anticipating the end for, but I find it interesting that in today's fast-paced world these two women can get so much attention... and sales. Is it just hype or do they really deserve it?

From Billboard.com:

Susan Boyle, who finished 2009 with the year's second-biggest selling album according to Nielsen SoundScan, is eyeing the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 next week. Standing in her way? The woman who took home last year's best-seller, Taylor Swift.

Boyle's second album, "The Gift," released yesterday (Nov. 9) is perhaps headed for a start of around 250,000 copies sold by week's end on Nov. 14 according to industry prognosticators. However, Swift's current No. 1, "Speak Now," may also sell about the same number.

It's a bit early in the week to call the race, especially considering how Swift will perform on tonight's Country Music Association Awards -- which are always a catalyst for music sales. And, because Boyle's appeal is likely focused with older consumers, her album's fortunes may improve over the weekend when families and grandparents are out shopping at their local big box retailer.

Boyle's debut set, "I Dreamed a Dream," blasted in at No. 1 a little under a year ago with 701,000 sold in its first week according to SoundScan and spent six weeks atop the list. "Dream" closed out 2009 with 3.1 million sold, just a little over 100,000 copies behind the year's best-seller: Swift's "Fearless" (3.2 million).

Other albums heading for a high arrival on next week's Billboard 200 include Reba McEntire's "All the Women I Am," Bon Jovi's "Greatest Hits," the "Now 36" compilation, Cee Lo Green's "The Lady Killer," Elvis Presley's "Viva Elvis," Alter Bridge's "AB III" and Kid Cudi's "Man on the Moon 2: the Legend of Mr. Rager."
