With last week's 15th consecutive run at the No. 1 position with Hawaiian Air, Friendly Fires tied the record for most weeks at the top of the Songs chart with one same title. Sadly, they're not able to break that record because it all ends this week as Hawaiian Air finally gives up the throne and falls to No. 4. But it's all not lost, because Friendly Fires replace themselves at the top with Blue Cassette, off their album Pala, after debuting at No. 100 eight weeks ago. So after all, Friendly Fires is the act with the most consecutive weeks - sixteen - at the top of the Songs chart, with one or more songs.
More crazy stats? And I say crazy because they all involve the number 7 somehow...
With such a long run at the top for Hawaiian Air, many titles had to settle with a not less respectable No. 2 position. A total of seven songs are included in this list starting most recently with Snow Patrol's This Isn't Everything You Are, which stays as runner-up for a second week. But there's also Benny Benassi's Close To Me featuring Gary Go (#3), Blink-182's Fighting The Gravity (#6), Young The Giant's My Body (#7), Coldplay's Paradise (#10), Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks (#12) and Florence + The Machine's Shake It Out (#18).
Also, Blue Cassette becomes the seventh song that made its debut at the No. 100 position and eventually went on to the top of the Songs chart. This list includes Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (Wind Blow - 2007), Fergie (Clumsy - 2007), Mariah Carey (O.O.C. - 2008), Kanye West (Love Lockdown - 2009), Jay-Z (Real As It Gets - 2010) and Outasight (Everything - 2011).
But that's not all. Friendly Fires is also the seventh act to replace itself at the top of the Songs chart after Interpol (Wrecking Ball, Rest My Chemistry - 2007), Mariah Carey (twice)(Migrate, Side Effects, I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time, O.O.C. - 2008; Betcha Gon' Know (The Prologue), H.A.T.E.U. - 2009), The-Dream (My Love, Right Side Of My Brain - 2009), Akon (Sexy Bitch, Available (Benny Benassi Remix) - 2009), Jay-Z (Empire State Of Mind, Real As It Gets - 2010) and Lykke Li (I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix), Love Out Of Lust - 2011).
Only one other song in the history of the chart has achieved what Hawaiian Air has just achieved, and that is stay at the top of the Songs tally for fifteen consecutive weeks! Friendly Fires now shares that mighty record with one renowned female singer better known as Mariah Carey, who first achieved the milestone a little more than six years ago with We Belong Together, also with a consecutive run. And while there's still the chance for records to be broken, there are plenty of other songs waiting to take over the chart and put an end to Friendly Fires' lead. One of the strongest titles is now Benny Benassi's Close To Me featuring Gary Go which storms up to #2 in its 23rd week on the chart, or Snow Patrol with This Isn't Everything You Are going up to #4 in its 3rd week, or White Lies with The Power & The Glory and Streetlights both battling it up inside the Top 10. So until next week, when we find out if Hawaiian Air has the strength to break a record or a new song claims the top spot of the Songs Chart.
Only a few artists like Interpol, Mariah Carey, The-Dream and Jay-Z have managed to get back to back #1 singles on my chart, but this week we can add another name to that list: Lykke Li. Up until this weekend she had dominated the songs chart with a remix to her song I Follow Rivers. Three weeks at the top went by and now she switches places with herself by getting her song Love Out Of Lust on top. This is now the singer's second #1 so far. But things are looking way better for this Swedish artist because, besides the two songs mentioned before, she's also charting the Greatest Gainer Silent My Song (#8) and the original I Follow Rivers (#10) in this week's Top 10. That's helping her album Wounded Rhymes get another week at the top of the albums chart.
A resurgence for Kings Of Leon's Birthday earns them the week's biggest leap by going from #77 to #44, quite impressive considering the song is on it's 24th chart appearance. The Power Play and Highest Debut belongs to Benny Benassi and Gary Go with their single Cinema. As expected, the song makes a quick debut at #68, just one spot higher than the Congorock Remix which debuted last week.
A couple more entries come from T.I. with Big Picture landing at #90 and Britney Spears' third song from Femme Fatale to debut, Criminal, opens at #96.
This indie alternative band from Venezuela first appeared with Radio Capital and its catchy, The-Ramones-inspired chant "Gabba Gabba Hey!" in early March. All 12 tracks from their debut album made the chart, achieving a nearly-complete domination of the Top 10 just one month later. El Zar became their only #1 song (4 weeks at the top) but with 340 chart appearances since their debut La Vida Bohème rules this year's top artists list.
The much-anticipated "comeback" song from one of my favorite bands, Interpol debuted at #87 in early May. Two weeks later it was already at the Top 10 and reached #1 during its 7th week on the chart. It may have reigned for just one week, but its incredible 20 weeks inside the Top 10 (May 22nd through November 6th) gave it enough points to comfortably stay ahead of the rest and become top song of the year.
The 12-track debut from this year's top artist La Vida Bohème definitely left a mark in 2010. An album that you can listen to from start to finish without skipping one single song and almost doubled its closest competitor in chart performance is worthy enough for album of the year, and most likely a respectable position for 2011. A little delayed today, but the third chapter of this year's Top 100 Songs of 2010 Countdown is ready! Lots of surprises here as we see many recent songs make it in the 50 - 26 range including P!nk's Raise Your Glass, Ke$ha's We R Who We R, Brandon Flowers' Only The Young and Kid Cudi's REVOFEV, to name a few. Another highlight? La Vida Bohème gets 4 spots out of these 25 (that's already 6 songs in the Top 100 and we're not even done!)
And the countdown continues... We're now halfway down on The TMJ Charts Top 100 Songs of 2010 with the 75 to 51 positions. This one includes The Chart's current No. 1 song by Drake and Young Jeezy, Unforgettable, at No. 75 and double spots for Interpol, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Timbaland and La Vida Bohème.

This is an unexpected turn, and not because Kid Cudi is stranger to begin at the top of The Chart as he has previously scored two number ones with Heart Of A Lion (3 weeks) and Hyyer (1 week), but because of how fast he got there and how he left the competition behind. Previous chart-topper The Show Goes On by Lupe Fiasco steps to No. 2. The song had been making strong rounds for the past month but falls short to this week's surprising No. 1, Ashin' Kusher, the third from Kid Cudi and the first from his new album Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager.
The Show Goes On for Lupe Fiasco as he scores a second week at the top of The Chart with his first single from the highly-anticipated Lasers album, due out early 2011. The current lead for the song is too high for it to leave the top anytime soon, so it may very well become Lupe's longest-charting No. 1 so far. Following at No. 2 is another fast-rising track: N*E*R*D's I've Seen The Light / Inside Of Clouds. It could've easily become their first chart-topper but its fate will depend on how long it'll take for Lupe's track to start slowing down. Another highlight for the Top 10 is a new peak for Brandon Flowers' Only The Young. The second single from Flamingo sits now at the No. 5 position. The rest of the top 10 is pretty much stationary except for a re-entry by Interpol with Try It On.
It was a great run at the top for Katy Perry - and not a bad run at all considering it's her first chart-topper - but things change this week as Teenage Dream falls to No. 3 and Tennessee rockers Kings Of Leon find their way to the summit with Radioactive. This is already the band's third No. 1 on my chart with Closer (2 weeks at #1, 73 weeks on the chart) and Notion (2 weeks at #1, 31 weeks on the chart) being the first two. Both songs are included in their previous album, Only By The Night.
This year's favorite girl is not only getting married this weekend! Katy Perry now owns 2010's longest-running #1 song on the chart as Teenage Dream remains steady at the top for a 7th non-consecutive week. I know there's still a few weeks left till '10 is over, but the chances of another song topping this one are slim. If you like facts, the only other song to have stayed at #1 for 7 weeks was Shadowplay by The Killers.
But is this Katy's last week at the summit? It may be, given Kings Of Leon's fast approach to the #2 position with Radioactive, which is the greatest gainer song for a second consecutive week. It only helps that their new album, Come Around Sundown, has just been released. Eight other tracks from that album enter the chart this week with The End leading at #68.
It's week number 5 for Katy Perry and her song Teenage Dream, which not only regains its bullet but also goes Gold after surpassing 500 points. But close behind are Usher and Jay-Z with Hot Tottie which is the Greatest Gainer track for a second week in a row. Will this be the song to break Perry's reign?
Interpol gets 3 spots in the top 10 this week as All Of The Ways and The Undoing both enter at #6 and #7 respectively, while Lights stays at #3. Jason Derülo inches up two spots with Ridin' Solo (#4) and La Vida Bohème returns to their #9 peak with Danz!.
Interpol will return to duty this summer for a run of European and North American festival dates, beginning July 3 at Norway's Quart Festival.
The trek will likely be the last in support of the band's 2007 Capitol debut, "Our Love To Admire," before it gets busy on its next album. "We didn't really do much of the summer festivals last year," drummer Sam Fogarino tells Billboard.com. "It will be the last hit-it-home, end-on-a-good note."
Fogarino admits "Admire," which followed two albums for Matador, was "a big turning point for the band internally, as well as creatively." The album has sold 194,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; Interpol's two prior sets have each sold at least 477,000 units.
"Switching labels and working with a co-producer, and not working at Peter [Katis]' studio, it was all these new firsts all at one time," he says. "It rattled the foundations a little bit. Never to the extreme, but things finally felt realistic. The first two albums were kind of a blur. We could never believe what was going on. Now our feet are touching the ground."
Fogarino says he and the other Interpol members "are all getting ready to get back into" crafting a new batch of material. "I'm guessing in the fall we'll get together and start hearing what [guitarist] Daniel [Kessler]'s been up to."
But first, Fogarino has some new music of his own to share, in the form of the self-titled debut EP from Magnetic Morning. The group finds him in collaboration with Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin on songs he's been accumulating since Interpol got started.
Magnetic Morning has only played live once so far (last December at New York's Mercury Lounge), but Fogarino is hoping the band will embark on its first tour in the fall.
"It's just so rare, especially being in Interpol the past eight years," he says of returning to the club level. "It's only natural that you take each other for granted. You get lost in the whole thing and realize how fortunate the situation is. A tight band in a small room and everybody's smiling -- I'll go through that again just to experience it. From Madison Square Garden back to Mercury Lounge -- It doesn't happen that much. I'm having my cake and eating it too."
