New Download: 'Let's Go' by Outasight

You should be familiar with the name Outasight by now after he hit it big time last year with his song Tonight Is The Night which served as the soundtrack to a major Pepsi commercial, or its live performance on The X-Factor USA. Not to mention, deserving #4 and #16 positions with Everything and Figure 8, respectively, on my year-end Top 100 Songs of 2011! This new year should be no different and to start it off there's a brand new tune for everyone to enjoy. Don't miss the electric guitars and massive hook! The title is Let's Go and you can get it below.

The Year of Pala

With last week's 15th consecutive run at the No. 1 position with Hawaiian Air, Friendly Fires tied the record for most weeks at the top of the Songs chart with one same title. Sadly, they're not able to break that record because it all ends this week as Hawaiian Air finally gives up the throne and falls to No. 4. But it's all not lost, because Friendly Fires replace themselves at the top with Blue Cassette, off their album Pala, after debuting at No. 100 eight weeks ago. So after all, Friendly Fires is the act with the most consecutive weeks - sixteen - at the top of the Songs chart, with one or more songs.

More crazy stats? And I say crazy because they all involve the number 7 somehow...

With such a long run at the top for Hawaiian Air, many titles had to settle with a not less respectable No. 2 position. A total of seven songs are included in this list starting most recently with Snow Patrol's This Isn't Everything You Are, which stays as runner-up for a second week. But there's also Benny Benassi's Close To Me featuring Gary Go (#3), Blink-182's Fighting The Gravity (#6), Young The Giant's My Body (#7), Coldplay's Paradise (#10), Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks (#12) and Florence + The Machine's Shake It Out (#18).

Also, Blue Cassette becomes the seventh song that made its debut at the No. 100 position and eventually went on to the top of the Songs chart. This list includes Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (Wind Blow - 2007), Fergie (Clumsy - 2007), Mariah Carey (O.O.C. - 2008), Kanye West (Love Lockdown - 2009), Jay-Z (Real As It Gets - 2010) and Outasight (Everything - 2011).

But that's not all. Friendly Fires is also the seventh act to replace itself at the top of the Songs chart after Interpol (Wrecking Ball, Rest My Chemistry - 2007), Mariah Carey (twice)(Migrate, Side Effects, I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time, O.O.C. - 2008; Betcha Gon' Know (The Prologue), H.A.T.E.U. - 2009), The-Dream (My Love, Right Side Of My Brain - 2009), Akon (Sexy Bitch, Available (Benny Benassi Remix) - 2009), Jay-Z (Empire State Of Mind, Real As It Gets - 2010) and Lykke Li (I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix), Love Out Of Lust - 2011).

Outasight › Tonight Is The Night

Take a look at this new video by Outasight. Tonight Is The Night is the latest single from the up and coming artist and while it may not be my all-time favorite song from him, it still gets you hooked. Besides, any video with a New York setting wins in my book.

And here's some behind-the-scenes footage, just because we don't get too many of these anymore.

6 Weeks At #1 For Friendly Fires

Joining this year's elite of longest-running #1 titles on the Top Songs Chart is that catchy song from Friendly Fires called Hawaiian Air. The song now stands at 6 consecutive weeks at #1, which is how many weeks both Adele and Outasight spent at the top just recently with their songs Rolling In The Deep and Everything, respectively. So, for now, these three songs are tied for most weeks at #1 in 2011, but will Friendly Fires go for lucky number 7? We'll have to wait till next week to find out! Also, check out this week's charts (Oct08,'11) after the jump:

In the meantime, check out these electric performance of Hawaiian Air that Friendly Fires did during the release of their latest album Pala, earlier this year.

Pepsi 'Music Icons' Ad

The soft drink brand recently premiered their latest TV ad which pays homage to some of our favorite Music Icons. These stars have, of course, participated in the past with their own Pepsi ads and the result is a montage of nostalgic images of some of our generation's biggest stars. To top it off, one of my favorite up and coming artists, Outasight, lends the song Tonight Is The Night to put the musical touch. Watch, in order of appearance, spots by Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Britney Spears, Kanye West and Mariah Carey.

Let's revisit these stars' past Pepsi commercials:

Michael Jackson (1987)

Ray Charles (1990)

Britney Spears (1999)

Kanye West (2005)

Mariah Carey (2006)

Outasight › Figure 8

One of the chart's number ones of this year gets the cool video treatment. Here's Outasight with the title track to his Figure 8 EP. The song sits currently at the #25 spot for this week's Top Songs Chart, 13 weeks after its debut, 2 of which were spent at the top spot - late May and early April. Outasight also owns the #1 spot for this week's chart with another title from the EP, Everything, now in it's third consecutive run at the top.

Don't miss the chance to download this awesome EP for free at Outasight's facebook page.

'Setting Sun' by Outasight

Another freebie courtesy of New Yorker Richard Andrew a.k.a Outasight for his stage name, is a song titled Setting Sun. Outasight currently owns the #1 spot on both the Top Songs Chart with Everything and the Albums Chart with the Figure 8 EP. As for the free download, there's actually a reason:
I told ya’ll when I hit 10,000 likes on Facebook and 7,000 followers on Twitter, I would drop a new song. Well the time has come and I’m making good on my word. Ladies and gents, I present you with next track, “Setting Sun” for free download.
So there you go! Enjoy.

'Everything' by Outasight

In today's chapter of need-a-nice-tune-to-sing-along-to we have Everything, one of the songs included in Outasight's super cool Figure 8 EP. I must say I'm currently addicted to this one  - I always say that, don't I? Well, that's 'cause it's true and there's proof: Currently at #8 on this week's chart. After having Figure 8 top my charts for two weeks not too long ago, this one has all the chances to follow suit. And it has that perfect summer vibe too, nice to head-nod to while driving on the highway. Try it, you won't be disappointed. And catch the nice instrumental ending while you're at it.

Outasight Gets First #1

A new edition of the charts reveals this week that Outasight takes over the Number One spot with his track Figure 8, an amazing feat after only three weeks. But Outasight is no stranger to the chart as he saw some action last year with songs like Dizzy and Catch Me If You Can, the latter reaching as high as the #4 position. Figure 8 became his third charted song and is his first ever #1.

After huge success so far with her latest album, Lykke Li returns to the honorable mentions as her song Rich Kids Blues becomes Greatest Gainer while jumping to the #8 spot. That's her 6th Top 10 song on the chart so far. The Power Play of the week is a re-entry by Bruno Mars as his song Count On Me sits at #81.

The Highest Debut belongs to Tinie Tempah with help from Ellie Goulding as Wonderman bows at the #62 position. The first chart appearance for him and the fourth for her. More debuts include Cee Lo Green's Love Gun featuring Lauren Bennett at #68; Beyoncé's latest Run The World (Girls) at #73 and Swedish House Mafia's belated One (Your Name) featuring Pharrell coming at #79.

The Biggest Jump is shared between a relatively new song and a much more experienced one. Former #1, Radioactive by Kings Of Leon, is more reactive now with a jump to #47 after 27 weeks on the chart, while Bibio's Take Off Your Shirt is reaching a new peak at #48 in its sixth week.

Incubus Still On Top

With three consecutive weeks at the top with Adolescents, Incubus matches the longest stay at the top of the Songs Chart since March of this year. The longest stay so far is four weeks and it was last achieved in February by Marina & The Diamonds with Obsessions, a song that's still making its rounds on the chart, sitting on the lower half at #49 with 21 weeks charting.

This week's highlight is marked by the return of Outasight with three debuts, starting with Figure 8, debuting strong and highest of the week at #13. Along with Life Or Something Like It at #79 and Maybe Next Time at #96, that's five songs for him since he first showed up on the chart last year with Catch Me If You Can, a song that peaked at #4. Other debuts include Wretch 32 featuring Example with Unorthodox opening at #56 and Bruno Mars' Lazy Song at #97.

Adele is proving to be a strong char contender as well as she gets both the Power Play and Biggest Jump of the week with her hit Rolling In The Deep, now at #27 in its second week. The Greatest Gainer is Beth Ditto with I Wrote The Book jumping to #12 in its third week.

Year-End Top Songs 100 - 76

Starting today, and for the next four days, I'll be presenting you The TMJ Charts Top 100 Songs for 2010! With the last chart issue of the year posted this past Saturday, I was finally ready to build these year-end charts. There'll be 25 songs posted each day until next Thursday when I'll be posting the Top 25.

There was a lot to choose from, with 511 different titles charting all throughout 2010, but these are the Top 100 based on the accumulated points for this year only (songs charting since 2009 are eligible). The stats are based on chart performance for 2010 as well, and titles with asterisks mean they're currently charting on the weekly Top 100.
