US Charts: Adele's '21' Bump Getting Bigger

Adele's "21" is shaping up to have an even bigger week than first thought.

Presently, the set is now projected to sell somewhere in the range of 650,000 to 680,000 by week's end on Sunday, Feb. 19, according to industry sources. That's up from the half-million-plus forecast that Billboard reported on Thursday morning (Feb. 16).

Next week, "21" will mark its one-year anniversary on the chart -- a list where it's never left the top 10 in a single week. It will also notch its 21st week at No. 1 and surpass the 7 million U.S. sales threshold. Currently, its sales stand at 6.62 million.

Finally, if "21" sells more than 650,000 this week, it will be the best week for any album since Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" debuted with 964,000 at No. 1 on the chart dated Sept. 17, 2011. It will also be "21's" biggest sales week, period. Its highest frame came over the Christmas holiday, when it shifted 399,000.

The big news this past week was, of course, the release of Madonna's newest single Give Me All Your Luvin' which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. The bouncy single, which was just made available last Friday, comes in at number 3 on the weekly recap for song downloads. The other big news on this chart is Brazilian singer Michel Teló, who finally knocks down Rihanna's We Found Love to claim the Number 1 spot for the first time with his worldwide hit Ai Se Eu Te Pego. Lana Del Rey goes top 5 with Video Games, Sean Paul jumps 31 spots with She Doesn't Mind to Number 42, Lil Wayne's Mirror featuring Bruno Mars debuts at Number 52 and M.I.A.'s Bad Girls does the same at Number 86. A bigger debut for Madonna comes on the weekly recap for albums, with her twelfth studio release MDNA, coming in at the top spot on the strength of pre-orders only (Number 1 in 48 countries on its first day of it being available). Keep in mind that the album won't officially come out until March 26th. Her last release Celebration picks up again and goes top 10 with a big leap to Number 7. Though it seemed a foregone conclusion months ago, Adele's "21" and her "Rolling in the Deep" single finish 2011 as the United States' top-selling album and song, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "21" sold 5.82 million copies last year, while "Rolling" moved 5.81 million downloads.

"21" -- Adele's second album -- is the biggest-selling set of any year since 2004, when Usher's "Confessions" sold 7.98 million. "21" also sells more than twice the amount of 2011's second-largest album -- Michael Buble's "Christmas," with 2.45 million. 2004 was the last year where the top selling set sold at least two times as much as the runner-up. "Confessions" was way ahead of Norah Jones' "Feels Like Home," which was the No. 2 seller of 2004 with 3.84 million.

"21" bounded onto the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1 on the list dated March 21, 2011 -- selling 352,000 copies in its debut week, granting Adele her first chart-topper. In its so-far 44-week run on the chart, it has never left the top 10 -- and only slipped out of the top five on the weekly chart once. It is currently spending its 14th non-consecutive frame at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
