TMJ Charts: No Doubt Returns to #1

A great week for No Doubt who score their second #1 song from their new album Push And Shove. The title song inches up one spot to take the crown while Lana Del Rey's Radio falls to #3 after just one week on top. No Doubt is now the second act to score more than one #1 song on the chart during 2012 after Gotye. Their song Settle Down, went on to spend 5 weeks at the top and currently stands at #19.

And speaking of Gotye, he's actually about to score a third chart-topper this year now that Save Me moves up to #2 in its 15th week on the chart. It's currently a strong contender and the only song gaining points inside the Top 10 besides Clique by Kanye West, Jay-Z and Big Sean which is up to #7 and Young The Giant's surprising move to #9 with God Made Man. Good moves as well for The Gaslight Anthem who see "45" leap to #15, Sloom by Of Monsters And Men which is up to #16, Bruno Mars' Locked Out Of Heaven is up to #24, Imagine Dragons jump big to #25 with It's Time and Metric's Youth Without Youth which jumps 55 to #32. But the Biggest move, as well as Greatest Gainer of the week, belongs to Nelly Furtado whose Spirit Indestructible is up 59 spots to #33.

The week's Highest Debut is also this week's Power Play track, and it goes to Rihanna, scoring her 16th chart entry as lead artist with Diamonds. The song debuts at #65. Kid Cudi also returns to the chart with Just What I Am featuring King Chip at #82, and so does Ke$ha who scores her 7th chart entry with Die Young debuting at #99.

The Recurrent Songs chart has a new song at the top and it's Swedish House Mafia's Miami 2 Ibiza making a big jump to #1 from last week's #40 position. And the Albums chart celebrates its 300th issue with a first for Lana Del Rey who finally reaches the top with Born To Die after 38 weeks on the chart, most of them inside the Top 5.

A very busy week on the charts as we have many debuts, chart returns and a new #1 on the Songs tally with Lana Del Rey finally reaching the top for the very first time since her chart debut with the song Radio. Having debuted at the #100 position in late April of this year and bouncing out after only one week, the song finally picked up a really good pace when it re-entered at #62 in mid-August. By early this month it was already inside the Top 10 and has now won the battle against Gotye's Eyes Wide Open, which is down to #3 this week.


And watch out for this week's #2 where we have No Doubt picking up as Greatest Gainer with Push And Shove jumping from 17 with only 3 weeks on the chart, and now most likely to follow the steps of their previous chart-topper Settle Down. There's also The Killers, who jump 4 to #4 with Flesh And Bone, a new Top 10 hit for Gotye as Save Me rockets from #27 to #6, P!nk reaches a new peak of 7 in the second round of Blow Me (One Last Kiss) for the top, and the return of Santigold with The Keepers at #10.

The week's biggest jump belongs to Kanye West, Jay-Z and Big Sean as Clique leaps 42 spots all the way to #14. And making up for last week's drought, there are plenty of new songs this time around starting with the Highest Debut at #72 where Bruno Mars returns to the chart with his new single Locked Out Of Heaven. His most recent chart entry was It Will Rain which peaked at #26 earlier this year. There's also Imagine Dragons making a double chart debut with It's Time at #74 and Radioactive at #100. Chris Brown crowns a new chart entry with Turn Up The Music at #81. Metric returns to the chart since 2009's Gimme Sympathy, this time with Youth Without Youth entering at #87, and so does Nelly Furtado whose last chart entry came in 2009 with Manos Al Aire, but now returns with Spirit Indestructible as Power Play of the week at #92. Lana Del Rey scores a new chart entry at #94 with Ride, and Christina Aguilera's Your Body at #98 is her first solo track in two years.

Somewhere Only We Know by Keane and Making Mirrors by Gotye repeat at #1 on the Recurrent Songs chart and Albums chart this week, respectively.

Digital Charts: PSY & The Killers at #1

This week's digital songs review has the latest pop culture phenomenon rising to the top of the charts as South Korean entertainer PSY flies to #1 with Gangnam Style, a song that has taken the world by storm, topping the download charts in more than 35 countries. Former chart-topper, Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe falls to #2 after 4 non-consecutive weeks at #1. P!nk's Blow Me (One Last Kiss) rises to a new peak at #5 and so does Maroon 5's One More Night at #8. The battle for the Albums chart is aptly won by The Killers with their new release Battle Born rising to the top. Another one of this week's big releases, P!nk's The Truth With Love, manages to climb to #3. David Guetta's recent album re-release, Nothing But The Beat 2.0, falls to #2 after one week at the top. The highest album debut belong to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. As Adele spends a seventh week atop the Billboard 200 with her sophomore set "21," the album's lead single, "Rolling in the Deep," becomes the singer/songwriter's first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1.

(As for the title's meaning, Adele describes it as an "adaptation of a kind of slang, slur phrase in the UK called 'roll deep,' which means to ... always have someone that has your back, and you're never on your own. I thought that's what I was always going to have, and, um, it ended up not being the case").

Since the Hot 100 adopted Nielsen BDS and SoundScan airplay and sales data, respectively, the week of Nov. 30, 1991 (after the Billboard 200 had converted to SoundScan-fueled figures in the May 25, 1991, issue), Adele is the 14th woman to command each chart simultaneously. (The fairer sex wins bragging rights: 12 solo males have accomplished the feat in that span).

Among the exclusive club, Whitney Houston has spent the most weeks (12) concurrently in charge of each chart, with "I Will Always Love You" from "The Bodyguard" (Dec. 12, 1992-Feb. 27, 1993), while Mariah Carey (three) and Janet Jackson (two) are the only artists to so doubly dominate with multiple albums.

Carey is also the only woman in that stretch to simultaneously rule the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 with two singles from the same set; "Fantasy" and "One Sweet Day," with Boyz II Men, each fronted the Hot 100 while "Daydream" dominated the Billboard 200.

Nelly Furtado › Night Is Young

Didn't we just get a new video from Nelly Furtado about a couple of days ago? We did. This one though, is the actual promo single for her upcoming Greatest Hits compilation and has the singer, looking very much like a very young Courtney Cox, directing a church choir and then changing clothes to finally drive off with her friends in convertibles, pick-up trucks and bikes to that nice club spot, not before breaking into an impromptu dance-off in the middle of the street. You know, the typical stuff we all do when having night out. It's fun to watch but the song itself has yet to make an impact on the chart mainly because I don't feel it's up to par with her best work, which is a bit ironic considering it will be included in The Best Of Nelly Furtado.

Nelly Furtado & Concha Buika › Fuerte

I was actually waiting for the Greatest Hits release but before she gets there Nelly Furtado has a treat for her spanish-spaking fans with Mi Plan: Remixes, which was released this past week via iTunes. The promo single for the compilation is Fuerte featuring spanish singer Concha Buika, and even though is dubbed as the "Original English Version" is more of a Spanglish Version of the song. At least that's what you get in the video, a 'strong' and confident Nelly being all sexy inside a mansion and getting in the indoor pool while wearing expensive outfits.

Nelly Furtado Set to Release 'Best Of' Compilation

Is this the new musical trend? After only four original releases, three in english (Whoa, Nelly!, Folklore, Loose) and one in spanish (Mi Plan), you'd think Nelly Furtado would be hitting us with a full blown original recording... After all, Loose turned out to be her biggest commercial success so far. Well, we're wrong! She is (or most likely, her label) getting ready celebrate her decade long career by saturating the music market even more with a "Greatest Hits"/"Best Of" album. With digital stores like iTunes or Amazon, do people still buy these? Granted, she's had enough hits/collaborations to put together a 10-12 track compilation. Plus, she's including three unreleased songs unlike others who may include just one new (mediocre) song. But all hope's not lost. Apparently her new all-original material will be coming out as soon as early 2011!

TMJ's Weekly Chart: Mariah gets a 5th

It's 5th week at #1 for Mariah Carey as "Obsessed" doesn't seem to go anywhere any time soon. Runner-up Mary J. Blige is making her way up with "The One (Feat. Drake)" and Sharam gets the greatest point gain for second week in a row as "She Came Along (Feat. Kid Cudi)" jumps to #3 this week. Kings Of Leon round up the top 5 as "Frontier City" moves up a spot to a new peak and "Closer" falls 3 after 43 weeks on the chart.

Big jumps for "Kings Of Medicine" by Placebo and "Crazi" by Sharam. Yeah Yeah Yeahs ("Heads Will Rolls") and The-Dream ("Can't Wait To Hate You") also make big jumps to land in the top 50 this week. Drake came short of being the biggest jump but it's good enough as "Best I Ever Had" leaps to #13. On the other hand, the biggest jump of the week is Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad (Feat. Leighton Meester)" but the song is still lingering in the lower half of the chart.

Two hot shot debuts within the top 50 as David Guetta leads with "Sexy Bitch (Feat. Akon)", probably his first song to really catch my attention since "The World Is Mine" came out a few years ago. Mariah Carey follows with the Jump Smokers Remix to "Obsessed". Jump Smokers' other appearance on the chart is their "Jump" remix by Flo Rida featuring Nelly Furtado. Some more new tracks from Placebo's new album Battle For The Sun and Bloc Party returns with "One More Chance" remixed by Alex Metric.

We Are Scientists rule the recurrent chart for a third consecutive week with "What's The Word". I'm thinking this should have been #1 when it made its rounds on the main chart.
