TMJ Charts: Santigold Ties Record at #1

In the blink of an eye, or actually, 15 weeks at #1 give Santigold something to talk about. Disparate Youth is now tied to Mariah Carey's We Belong Together (2005) and Friendly Fires' Hawaiian Air (late 2011) as the song with most weeks at the top of the Songs chart. The big news is that she could actually break the record as things have been slow for the past couple of weeks. So, stay tuned and check out the next chart to see if that actually happens.

'Hawaiian Air' Goes For 15 Weeks

Only one other song in the history of the chart has achieved what Hawaiian Air has just achieved, and that is stay at the top of the Songs tally for fifteen consecutive weeks! Friendly Fires now shares that mighty record with one renowned female singer better known as Mariah Carey, who first achieved the milestone a little more than six years ago with We Belong Together, also with a consecutive run. Watch below one of my favorite performances of Hawaiian Air:

And while there's still the chance for records to be broken, there are plenty of other songs waiting to take over the chart and put an end to Friendly Fires' lead. One of the strongest titles is now Benny Benassi's Close To Me featuring Gary Go which storms up to #2 in its 23rd week on the chart, or Snow Patrol with This Isn't Everything You Are going up to #4 in its 3rd week, or White Lies with The Power & The Glory and Streetlights both battling it up inside the Top 10. So until next week, when we find out if Hawaiian Air has the strength to break a record or a new song claims the top spot of the Songs Chart.

Friendly Fires Closer To The Record

Not only Friendly Fires is the first non-solo act to spend ten or more weeks at the top of the Songs chart, but it's also about to tie the record for most weeks at Number 1 now that Hawaiian Air extends its lead for a 14th consecutive run. But for now, it settles as the second longest stay at the top after Mariah Carey's We Belong Together set the record with 15 weeks in 2005. Not bad considering this band it's (still) not as big as it should really be, or at least that's the impression I get.

The rest of the charts stay the same as far as leads go with Friendly Fires' Pala notching a 12th non-consecutive weekat the top of the Albums chart, Madonna's Get Together gets a 2nd run on the Recurrent Songs chart and Adele's Someone Like You stays strong as lead and Greatest Gainer of the Top Shared Songs chart.

More Friendly Fires

It's safe to say that one of the the biggest surprises this year has been Friendly Fires' consistency and longevity at the top of the charts, both on Songs and Albums. With 12 weeks at #1, Hawaiian Air is now the third tune to stay the longest at the pole position of the Songs chart, only three weeks away from the record held by Mariah Carey's We Belong Together back in 2005. Meanwhile, Pala proves to be a strong contender in the albums of the year category now that it spends its tenth week at #1, thanks of course to Hawaiian Air's chart history and others like Live Those Days Tonight and Show Me Lights.

So for now, Paradise by Coldplay has to settle once again with the #2 position, while White Lies surprises as Greatest Gainer with The Power & The Glory which jumps to #9 in its fourth week. With 20 weeks on the chart, Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes featuring Adam Levine rebounds as Biggest Jump to the #24 position and Incubus returns with Friends And Lovers as both Power Play and Highest Debut this week at #43.

No Match For Friendly Fires

Another week comes, a few things don't change. That is Friendly Fires still ruling the Top Songs and Top Albums charts. Moving closer to the record, Hawaiian Air stands now at 11 consecutive weeks at the #1 position while, once again, besting the point rank of its chart run. Three closest competitors have come and gone and a fourth one comes with Coldplay's Paradise moving up five to #2. There's still no giving up with Florence + The Machine's Shake It Out, Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks and Young The Giant's My Body rounding up the top five.

On the other charts, Pala enjoys a 9th week on the top of the Albums Chart while Domestic Scene by The Radio Dept. also spends its 11th week on the top of the Recurrent Songs Chart. A new #1 song mixes it up on the Shared Top 50 Songs chart as Britney Spears jumps 16 spots to lead with her latest single Criminal.

Hawaiian Air: It's Not Over Yet

Only three other songs have managed to stay on top of the Songs Chart for ten straight weeks or more since I started building the countdown, but now Friendly Fires gets the honor to be the first band to achieve the milestone. It was hard to tell in the beginning if Hawaiian Air had the strength to go as far as spending this many weeks on the chart but it's now proven to be one of the strongest titles in years. And it just goes on, now that this week the song gets the highest point-rank of its chart run. Maybe going for the 15-week record? It doesn't seem impossible at this point, but let's just hope we don't run out of high quality Youtube clips!

Once Again, It's Friendy Fires

A new chart week means another week at #1 for Friendly Fires as they rule both Top Songs and Top Albums once more with Hawaiian Air and Pala, respectively. Hawaiian Air extends it's stay at the top, having ruled the songs countdown now for 8 consecutive weeks, the longest stay at the top of that chart since Mariah Carey's Obsessed spent 9 weeks there in 2009. Pala, on the other hand, matches one of this year's biggest albums, Adele's 21, with 6 weeks at the top.

In fact, it's a static Top 3 on the Songs chart with Friendly Fires at #1 followed by Shake It Out by Florence + The Machine and My Body by Young The Giant still trying to get to the top. Check out debuts by The Kooks and Noah And The Whale. A static week as well on the top of the other charts with Popping Bottles by T.I. and Drake staying at #1 of the Recurrent Songs chart and Adele's Someone Like You scores a 4th week at the summit of the Shared Top 50.

Lucky 7 For Friendly Fires

They did it! The fellas from Friendly Fires score their seventh consecutive week at #1 on the Top Songs Chart with that Hawaiian Air number, a song that upon it's debut, 14 weeks ago, didn't seem to have the staying power it's achieved until now. So this means they've taken one step ahead and grabbed the longest-running #1 song of 2011 on the chart so far. And the song keeps growing every week, so there's still time for them to extend their stay at the top, although that's still not guaranteed with Florence + The Machine getting closer and closer to a chart-topper first with the haunting Shake It Out, repeating at #2 in its third week. It won't be till next week's charts that we found out who wins the battle.

6 Weeks At #1 For Friendly Fires

Joining this year's elite of longest-running #1 titles on the Top Songs Chart is that catchy song from Friendly Fires called Hawaiian Air. The song now stands at 6 consecutive weeks at #1, which is how many weeks both Adele and Outasight spent at the top just recently with their songs Rolling In The Deep and Everything, respectively. So, for now, these three songs are tied for most weeks at #1 in 2011, but will Friendly Fires go for lucky number 7? We'll have to wait till next week to find out! Also, check out this week's charts (Oct08,'11) after the jump:

In the meantime, check out these electric performance of Hawaiian Air that Friendly Fires did during the release of their latest album Pala, earlier this year.
