'Hawaiian Air' Goes For 15 Weeks

Only one other song in the history of the chart has achieved what Hawaiian Air has just achieved, and that is stay at the top of the Songs tally for fifteen consecutive weeks! Friendly Fires now shares that mighty record with one renowned female singer better known as Mariah Carey, who first achieved the milestone a little more than six years ago with We Belong Together, also with a consecutive run. And while there's still the chance for records to be broken, there are plenty of other songs waiting to take over the chart and put an end to Friendly Fires' lead. One of the strongest titles is now Benny Benassi's Close To Me featuring Gary Go which storms up to #2 in its 23rd week on the chart, or Snow Patrol with This Isn't Everything You Are going up to #4 in its 3rd week, or White Lies with The Power & The Glory and Streetlights both battling it up inside the Top 10. So until next week, when we find out if Hawaiian Air has the strength to break a record or a new song claims the top spot of the Songs Chart.

More Friendly Fires

It's safe to say that one of the the biggest surprises this year has been Friendly Fires' consistency and longevity at the top of the charts, both on Songs and Albums. With 12 weeks at #1, Hawaiian Air is now the third tune to stay the longest at the pole position of the Songs chart, only three weeks away from the record held by Mariah Carey's We Belong Together back in 2005. Meanwhile, Pala proves to be a strong contender in the albums of the year category now that it spends its tenth week at #1, thanks of course to Hawaiian Air's chart history and others like Live Those Days Tonight and Show Me Lights.

So for now, Paradise by Coldplay has to settle once again with the #2 position, while White Lies surprises as Greatest Gainer with The Power & The Glory which jumps to #9 in its fourth week. With 20 weeks on the chart, Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes featuring Adam Levine rebounds as Biggest Jump to the #24 position and Incubus returns with Friends And Lovers as both Power Play and Highest Debut this week at #43.

Lykke Li & The Magician Go To #1

It was really just a matter of time. I do believe White Lies deserved a couple more weeks at the top with Bigger Than Us because I really like that song, but who knows, they might make a comeback later on. Now that they're down to #3 it means there's a new #1 this week and it belongs to none other than Lykke Li and her I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix). This is the singer's first chart-topper, and not just any chart-topper, because it's only the second remixed song to go all the way to the top in the history of the chart. The first one was the Benny Benassi remix to Available by Flo Rida and Akon, which started its two-week stay at #1 in September of 2009.

But Lykke Li continues to dominate my music playlist as this week she once again is Greatest Gainer, this time with her song Love Out Of Lust, which goes to #8 in its second week. I Know Places is Power Play of the week at #75 and Get Some, her first charted song, re-enters at #87. The original I Follow Rivers is the Biggest Jump to #47 from last week's #94.

In terms of new entries Britney Spears scores the Hot Shot and Highest Debut this week with her second single off Femme Fatale. Debuting at #51, Till The World Ends proves to be a much better performer than its predecessor Hold It Against Me which only managed to peak at #57 and stay on the chart for 5 weeks. This is only the singer's fourth song to enter the chart.

Many first timers are welcomed to the chart this week starting with The Decemberists and their song This Is Why We Fight, also Power Play of the week, at #74; Mogwai debut at #89 with White Noise; Ryan Adams debuts at #95 with Disappyramid; The Shoes enter at #99 with Wastin' Time and Radiohead start with Lotus Flower and Little By Little at #88 and #100 respectively. More new songs include Cee Lo Green's It's OK at #93 and Usher's More at #97.

White Lies Takes The Top Spot

A new song reigns this week's chart and it's the band White Lies making a quick landing to the #1 spot with Bigger Than Us. It comes to no surprise because they did have a big debut at #17 just four weeks ago, though it's good to note that this is the first song by the band to chart, so it's quite the good accomplishment. This is also the first song by a band to go all the way since Kings Of Leon made it to the top with Radioactive in late October of last year.

But White Lies gets more than the #1 spot as several songs from their Ritual album also debut this week including Turn The Bells, Peace & Quiet, Strangers, Bad Love and Holy Ghost occupying the #95 through #99 spots.

Another artist to pay attention to is, of course, Lykke Li. If you've been following the blog you would know by now that I'm currently kind of obsessed with her. This week not only her I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) is a close call by jumping to the #2 spot, repeating as Greatest Gainer, but the release of her Wounded Rhymes album makes several of her songs Hot Shot Debuts including the Highest Debut, Love Out Of Lust (#30), Youth Knows No Pain (#90), Jerome (#92), Unrequited Love (#93) and the original I Follow Rivers (#94).

Also making a big debut is the Chris Brown and Benny Benassi collaboration, Beautiful People, which lands at #34 as Power Play of the week; We Are Tokyo also make their chart debut with The Best In Me (Ninetynine's Nightmare Remix) entering at #55; Neon Trees makes it times three with 1983 leading at #59, Our War at #69 and Love And Affection at #82; also new to the chart is The Radio Dept. who debut at #91 with Never Follow Suit and finally Katy Perry scores a second E.T. remix on the chart as the Tiësto take on her new single enters at #100. The E.T. (Benny Benassi Remix) is so far having the better luck jumping to #26 in it's second week.

The Biggest Jump belongs to the second single by rapper Lupe Fiasco featuring Skylar Grey, Words I Never Said going up 34 spots to land at #12 this week. Expect it to get a boost by next week which coincides with the long-awaited release of his third studio album, Lasers.

3 Weeks Of Obsessions

Not a lot of change for the whole Top 5 as Marina & The Diamonds scores a third week at the top with Obsessions and only Kanye West's All Of The Lights and T.I.'s Poppin Bottles swap the #2 and #3 spots. White Lies score big with Bigger Than Us as the song jumps to #7 in only its second week and Lykke Li is about to become Top 10 royalty with I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) going to #11 as Greatest Gainer of the week.

The Highest Debut belongs to Nicki Minaj and Eminem with Roman's Revenge entering at #65. Another Minaj collaboration, Moment 4 Life, this time with Drake, enters at #97. More new songs include The Black Eyed Peas' Just Can't Get Enough at #71 as Power Play of the week and Lupe Fiasco & Skylar Grey debut at #79 with Words I Never Said.

This week's Biggest Jump belongs to Jessie J and B.o.B's Price Tag, which rockets 59 spots to #30 in it's second week.

Marina's Still On Top

Marina & The Diamonds going to #1 Obsessions was definitely not a fluke now that it comfortably spends its second week at the the top. She's also Greatest Gainer this week but with a different tune, Numb, which now becomes her sixth Top 10 so far by landing at #7.

One of the first big debuts of the year belongs to White Lies. Really hooked on this song Bigger Than Us which enters directly inside the Top 20 at #17 and is most likely a huge contender for the top spot in the coming weeks. Another debut for Brandon Flowers with Jacksonville entering at #78 as Power Play song of the week. There's also new songs by Panic! At The Disco as The Ballad Of Mona Lisa bows at #88 and Jessie J gets her first song on the chart as Price Tag featuring B.o.B comes in at #89.

Lykke Li scores the Biggest Jump as I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) is up 58 spots to land at #27 in its second week.

White Lies › Bigger Than Us

This is one of my most recent addictions. White Lies is an English band and Bigger Than Us is the first single from the newly released Ritual, their second studio album. Of course I had to go search for the video which, to my surprise, is complete based on a scene by Steven Spielberg's E.T. The Extraterrestrial, only this time E.T. is replaced by a blonde kid who's trapped in a giant chocolate bar. ???. As crazy as it sounds I was hooked. Bigger Than Us should do quite well once it hits the chart.
