The Weekly TMJ Charts - March 29, 2014

Another week, another number one. It's the second consecutive week at the top for Flume & Chet Faker with Left Alone, probably one of the most underrated songs on Flume's self-titled debut album. I'm telling you, this pair sounds so good together it's impossible to skip once it starts playing. And they're so good, in fact, that soon after they released the Jocklaw EP, with all of its three songs currently charting on the chart. As for Left Alone, the song was bound to become one of the big songs this year. It debuted at No. 17 on early November of last year, jumped to the top 10 the week after, and has never left the upper range of the chart since then, becoming a chart-topper 20 weeks after its debut. The song is the first No. 1 for both Aussie artists on this chart.

Flume & Chet Faker - Left Alone

No major debuts this week surprisingly, but lots of movement and new peaks for some of the recent chart additions. Can't forget to mention a soon-to-be reign for Tove Lo who currently owns two spots inside the Top 10. Habits seems to be so close to reaching the top but this week tumbles down again to No. 3 in its 12th week, Out Of Mind jumps 18 as Greatest Gainer track of the week all the way to No. 7, Not On Drugs reaches a new peak at No. 16, Love Ballad leaps back to the Top 20 at No. 17, and Stay High (Habits Remix) skyrockets from 59 to 31 in its 2nd week.

Hozier's Take Me To Church bounces back to No. 2, Cherub reaches a No. 4 peak with Doses & Mimosas in its 6th week on the chart, Major Lazer & Pharrell Williams jump 5 to No. 5 with Aerosol Can, Wild Cub enters the Top 10 at No. 8 with Thunder Clatter and The War On Drugs come back for a second shot at the top with Red Eyes at No. 10.

Good moves for Artifice by SOHN at No. 12, Hero by Frank Ocean, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon & Diplo enters the Top 20 at No. 19 in its second week on the chart, Come With Me Now by KONGOS reach a new peak at No. 27, as does Magic by Coldplay at No. 36 this week.

The Biggest Jump and Power Play track of the week belongs to Bastille with the Laura Palmer RAC Remix. The song comes back with a bang leaping from 94 to a new peak at No. 46.

Outasight Gets First #1

A new edition of the charts reveals this week that Outasight takes over the Number One spot with his track Figure 8, an amazing feat after only three weeks. But Outasight is no stranger to the chart as he saw some action last year with songs like Dizzy and Catch Me If You Can, the latter reaching as high as the #4 position. Figure 8 became his third charted song and is his first ever #1.

After huge success so far with her latest album, Lykke Li returns to the honorable mentions as her song Rich Kids Blues becomes Greatest Gainer while jumping to the #8 spot. That's her 6th Top 10 song on the chart so far. The Power Play of the week is a re-entry by Bruno Mars as his song Count On Me sits at #81.

The Highest Debut belongs to Tinie Tempah with help from Ellie Goulding as Wonderman bows at the #62 position. The first chart appearance for him and the fourth for her. More debuts include Cee Lo Green's Love Gun featuring Lauren Bennett at #68; Beyoncé's latest Run The World (Girls) at #73 and Swedish House Mafia's belated One (Your Name) featuring Pharrell coming at #79.

The Biggest Jump is shared between a relatively new song and a much more experienced one. Former #1, Radioactive by Kings Of Leon, is more reactive now with a jump to #47 after 27 weeks on the chart, while Bibio's Take Off Your Shirt is reaching a new peak at #48 in its sixth week.

Chris Brown & Benny Benassi › Beautiful People

At first I thought this would be a vanity record but it's turned out to be one of my all-time favorite songs by Chris Brown. And it's not like he's struggled to get hits on my chart but he's best score so far has been Run It! which peaked at #2 in 2005. Only recently he's managed to get back on the chart with songs like the Deuces (Remix) and Yeah 3x, if we don't count his other collaborations. And even when his personal life has taken a toll on his career he seems to be bouncing back big time with his latest album F.A.M.E. debuting at #1 in the United States charts. Undeniably, a part of Beautiful People's appeal is the Benny Benassi mark but the video also features some familiar faces like Pharrell, T-Pain, Brandy, The Game and Bow Wow, to name a few. Beautiful People is currently sitting at #11 after five weeks on the chart.

Sara Bareilles › Uncharted

This is a song by Sara Bareilles that I kind of like a lot more than her other recent single, King Of Anything. The Uncharted video features a bunch of known faces as well, including, but not limited to, Pharrell Williams, Tegan & Sara, Josh Groban, Ben Folds, Adam Levine and... yes, well Sara Bareilles herself is in it, although not a lot. There's some other people here as well, so be sure to check out the Youtube-like video and see if you recognize the rest. The song is included in her album Kaleidoscope Heart, released in September of last year.

'All Of The Lights' Still On Top

It's four weeks at the top now for All Of The Lights by Kanye West and still going strong now that the song has regained its bullet. It has also matched 2008's Love Lockdown for most of weeks at the top by the rapper. But right on its heels comes another Marina & The Diamonds' song to reach No. 2 and that would be Obsessions, which is Greatest Gainer for second week in a row. It's the singer's fourth shot at the top spot after I Am Not A Robot, Oh No! and Shampain also reached No. 2. Drake recently broke the spell, can she do it next?

An honorable mention goes to Linkin Park because after 13 weeks on The Chart they have finally reached the Top 10 with Waiting For The End. It has happened a few times before and it's happened again this week. Two different songs make a 56 spot leap to become Biggest Jumps on The Chart. They are Ian Carey's Last Night featuring Bobby Anthony and Snoop Dogg and Brandon Flowers' Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas, at No. 21 and No. 22 respectively.

The Highest Debut goes again to Marina & The Diamonds as The Outsider enters at No. 74 with another one of her songs, Mowgli's Road, debuting at No. 89, both songs becoming her 11th and 12th chart entries. Only her song Guilty from the album The Family Jewels has not entered The Chart so far. There's also new entries by pop star Britney Spears with Hold It Against Me as Power Play of the week and only her third chart appearance since 3 debuted in 2009, and T.I.'s Amazing featuring Pharrell Williams entering at No. 94.

Strokes, Santogold, Pharrell make joint video

A video for the collaboration between Santogold, Pharrell Williams and The Strokes' Julian Casablancas has appeared online.

The trio recently teamed up to produce the song 'My Drive Thru' to celebrate 100th anniversary of Converse's Chuck Taylor shoe.

Snoop Dogg Plays 'Storytellers'

Backed by a 14-piece band and two DJs, rapper Snoop Dogg filmed a performance for VH1's "Storytellers" last night (March 13). Among the musicians were Soopafly, Battlecat, DJ Quik, Teddy Riley and Terrance Martin. The last three, along with Snoop Dogg, form the production group QDT (Quik, Dogg and Teddy), which crafted the bulk of Snoop's latest album, "Ego Trippin'."

Sporting a varsity jacket, two braids and a rhinestone-encrusted microphone, the MC ironically opened the set by saying, "I ain’t got no story for this song," before breaking into "Whateva U Do." The track was followed by the autobiographical "Neva Have 2 Worry," assisted by Martin on the saxophone.

Snoop then shared a comment that his kids said he made songs for "old people," which prompted him to make a song for the youth, resulting in "Life Of Da Party." Bay Area rappers Mistah Fab and Too Short joined him on stage for the performance.

Immediately after that, this time with rapper/producer Daz and fellow Dogg Pound member Kurupt on stage, Snoop broke into one of his first songs, the Dr. Dre-produced "Nuthin' But A G Thang." "Gin & Juice" followed, with the Dogg Pound acting as back-up singers. Meanwhile, Doug. E. Fresh made a cameo for "Lodi Dodi," but not before Snoop ran through the comical ode to Johnny Cash, "My Medicine."

"I've had all this success and only one of my songs went no. 1," Snoop told his audience prior to the playing "Drop It Like It's Hot." "I hollered at my nephew. He rolled up on his skateboard, told me to hold this ice cream and then he gave me this track." Although said nephew, The Neptunes' producer Pharrell Williams, didn’t show, the crowd happily sang along to the song.

The concert formally ended with the piano-driven "Goodbye," featuring Charlie Wilson, and a ten-minute-long encore of "Cool," which Snoop said probably wouldn't air because Morris Day, the song's original owner, didn't give clearance.

"VH1 Storytellers" is a show that features artists performing their hits and new music alike while sharing the stories behind the songs. Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu have also performed on the show.

Snoop's "VH1 Storytellers" episode will air in the next few weeks.
