TMJ Charts: M83 Hangs for a 3rd Week

Things don't change at the top of the Songs chart with M83 scoring their third consecutive week as Greatest Gainer and at #1 with their song Midnight City. The song is now way ahead of its closest competitor, which is Gotye by the way, who once again manages to climb back to #2 with Somebody That I Used To Know.

Midnight City (Live at Coachella 2012)

The top 10 sees the return of Flo Rida's Wild Ones featuring Sia, which in its 27th week on the chart jumps 12-7. Coldplay and Rihanna reach a new peak at #4 with Princess Of China, and so does Linkin Park as Burn It Down reaches a new high at #5. The big news though is the multiple new entries we have this week. The Highest Debut belongs to Marina & The Diamonds with How To Be A Heartbreaker which opens at #23 while fun. score their second chart entry after We Are Young as Some Nights debuts at #34. The Recurrent charts sees Incubus regain the top spot with 2007's Dig while M83 keep the #1 spot on the Albums chart with Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. for a second week.

Incubus › The Original (Live)

What a great coincidence that the release of this video comes in the same week that I rediscover such a great song! Probably my second favorite after Adolescents. I'm already expecting it to get a big debut on next week's chart, but now it might be a big contender for top song. The Original is taken from Incubus' latest studio release If Not Now, When? The video content is taken from the band's current tour in support of this album.

Incubus Still On Top

With three consecutive weeks at the top with Adolescents, Incubus matches the longest stay at the top of the Songs Chart since March of this year. The longest stay so far is four weeks and it was last achieved in February by Marina & The Diamonds with Obsessions, a song that's still making its rounds on the chart, sitting on the lower half at #49 with 21 weeks charting.

This week's highlight is marked by the return of Outasight with three debuts, starting with Figure 8, debuting strong and highest of the week at #13. Along with Life Or Something Like It at #79 and Maybe Next Time at #96, that's five songs for him since he first showed up on the chart last year with Catch Me If You Can, a song that peaked at #4. Other debuts include Wretch 32 featuring Example with Unorthodox opening at #56 and Bruno Mars' Lazy Song at #97.

Adele is proving to be a strong char contender as well as she gets both the Power Play and Biggest Jump of the week with her hit Rolling In The Deep, now at #27 in its second week. The Greatest Gainer is Beth Ditto with I Wrote The Book jumping to #12 in its third week.

Incubus Stays at #1

Incubus enjoys a second showing at #1 this week with their current single Adolescents. This ties Oil And Water from 2007 with two weeks at the top. Their longest stay at the top was Dig which spent 4 consecutive weeks at #1.

Just like last week, the Greatest Gainer once again belongs to The Script with Dead Man Walking, a song that could very well be entering the race to the top, currently at #4. The Power Play and Biggest Jump goes to Beth Ditto with her song I Wrote The Book, which skyrockets to #35 in its second week. The Highest Debut goes to The Magician's Remix to Yuksek's On A Train, opening at #74. More debuts include Adele's global hit, Rolling In The Deep, which finally makes its way into the chart at #98, and Drake's eighth chart entry as lead artist with Karaoke at #99.

Incubus Ascends

No surprise here, but let's point out the fact that just three weeks is what it took for Incubus' comeback single to top the songs chart! Adolescents is not only this band's 17th chart entry but it becomes their 4th chart-topper, following Dig, Oil And Water and Quicksand, all taken from their 2007 release Light Grenades. Black Heart Inertia was their last chart appearance, which debuted in May of 2009 and peaked at #11.

Foo Fighters is now down one spot but still strong with a bullet for Bridge Burning and Lykke Li's Silent My Song rounds the Top 3.

This week's Greatest Gainer belongs to The Script, a band that scored several hits from their self-titled album the last couple of years but has struggled a little with Science & Faith, their sophomore record. That's all about to change now that Dead Man Walking becomes their 5th Top 10 hit entering at #8 in it's second week; and there's more because Long Gone And Moved On is the Biggest Jump with a leap to #54 from last week's #92.

The Power Play track and Highest Debut of the week goes to the Beastie Boys and their single Make Some Noise, entering at #76 as their first track ever to chart. More new entries from Lupe Fiasco's unreleased version of Airplanes, originally made famous by B.o.B and also featuring Paramore's Hayley Williams, coming at #90; Gossip's Beth Ditto solo adventure pays off and now sees her chart debut with I Wrote The Book at #91; Placebo makes a surprise debut with a live version of Bright Lights at #98; Brandon Boyd's Revenge Of The Spectral Tiger comes in at #99 and The Black Eyed Peas earn their 23rd chart entry with The Best One Yet (The Boy) at #100.

Incubus › Adolescents

Enjoy Incubus! Here's the video for the band's newest song titled Adolescents, the lead single from their upcoming new album If Not Now, When?, set to be released this next summer.

The song is already leaving it's mark on the songs chart. After a huge #6 debut it's currently at #2 in only it's second week.

Incubus Returns to Challenge Lykke Li

If you've been following the chart these past few weeks you surely noticed how Lykke Li has gotten all the attention, and she continues to do so this week with yet another #1 - #2 charting. First, it's the 3rd consecutive week at the top, and sixth overall, for her with Love Out Of Lust while Silent My Song goes to #2. Rounding up the Top 3 is Brandon Flowers who holds steady one spot lower with Jilted Lovers & Broken Hearts, a song that still has got potential to become his first solo #1.

But it's hard to tell if Lykke Li will replace herself again at the top or if Brandon Flowers sneaks in for at least a week. The reason, that you should all know, is the triumphant return to the chart of another favorite band, Incubus, which scores the Highest Debut at #6 with Adolescents, their 17th chart entry and new single from their upcoming studio album. They last charted in 2009 with Black Heart Inertia, off their Monuments & Melodies compilation album. That song managed to peak at #11 in August of that year and spent a total of 35 weeks on the chart. With three chart-toppers (Dig, Oil And Water, and Quicksand) this one is most likely to follow.

Last week also marked the return of the Foo Fighters with Bridge Burning, becoming Greatest Gainer this week at #7, but it all consolidates now with eight Wasting Light tracks debuting from the #85 to #92 positions. Apart from the Foos, there's a couple of new, first entries: Bear Mountain with Swim at #65 and Olly Murs, with Heart On My Sleeve, as Power Play of the week, at #82.

'Adolescents' by Incubus

Wow wow! (I still have not snapped out of this big news.) Adolescents is the title of the new Incubus song, needless to say, one of my favorite bands in this whole entire world. This is the first single from their upcoming new album If Not Now, When?, expected to be released in July of this year. Thank you very much because it's been a long wait since Light Grenades. Even their 'greatest hits' compilation Monuments & Melodies came out in 2009. All I know is that this one's going straight to the 'repeat' playlist.

Incubus Members Head To School, Orchestra

Having just completed a year-and-a-half-long tour in support of its 2006 album "Light Grenades," Incubus is planning to take a break while its members pursue a variety of endeavors.

On Aug. 23, guitarist Mike Einziger will unveil an orchestral piece in concert at Royce Hall on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles.

"He did the Time Lapse Consortium, which was a solo thing, even though most of Incubus played on it. But this one is just Mikey," frontman Brandon Boyd tells Billboard.com. "This time, the band will just go to watch. He's moving into ambitious territory."

For Einziger, the concert will serve as a precursor to his enrollment in music school to study composition next year. But he's not the only one returning to higher education, as Boyd also plans to enroll in a university art program.

"And, our drummer is having a baby, so there's a lot of normal life stuff going on right now -- school, babies, mortgages," Boyd says.

The band does have one more gig on its schedule: the VH1 Rock Honors salute to the Who on July 12 in Los Angeles alongside Pearl Jam, the Foo Fighters, Flaming Lips and Tenacious D. But afterward, Boyd expects Incubus will probably lay low for an extended period of time.

"I'm of the mind to say it wouldn't be a bad thing to disappear for a year or two years," he says. "A lot of people would say culture moves too fast and you need to remind people, but I would argue there's not any rush. Maybe they'll be a sex scandal or an arrest or something to keep us in the news."
