US Charts: 22 Weeks at #1 for '21'

Not unexpectedly, Adele's "21" album spends a 22nd week atop the Billboard 200 chart, selling 297,000 (down 59%) according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's now the longest-running No. 1 since Prince & the Revolution's "Purple Rain" soundtrack scored 24 weeks at No. 1 in 1984 and 1985.

This is also "21's" ninth consecutive week at No. 1 -- the most in-a-row frames at No. 1 since the "Titanic" soundtrack racked 14-straight in 1998.

"21" -- released just over a year ago in the U.S. -- has now sold 7.65 million in the U.S. Of that figure, 1.83 million were shifted in 2012.

US Charts: Adele's '21' Bump Getting Bigger

Adele's "21" is shaping up to have an even bigger week than first thought.

Presently, the set is now projected to sell somewhere in the range of 650,000 to 680,000 by week's end on Sunday, Feb. 19, according to industry sources. That's up from the half-million-plus forecast that Billboard reported on Thursday morning (Feb. 16).

Next week, "21" will mark its one-year anniversary on the chart -- a list where it's never left the top 10 in a single week. It will also notch its 21st week at No. 1 and surpass the 7 million U.S. sales threshold. Currently, its sales stand at 6.62 million.

Finally, if "21" sells more than 650,000 this week, it will be the best week for any album since Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" debuted with 964,000 at No. 1 on the chart dated Sept. 17, 2011. It will also be "21's" biggest sales week, period. Its highest frame came over the Christmas holiday, when it shifted 399,000.

Gotye Hits #1

I didn't post a chart update last week so I should make up for it now. Not many chart newcomers have had the success that Gotye is most likely going to achieve with Somebody That I Used To Know. It had a rocky start, but last week it finally knocked Rihanna's We Found Love from the top spot with Greatest Gainer honors. Not surprisingly, and with eight weeks on the chart, the Gotye/Kimbra collaboration is once again Greatest Gainer track of the week, scoring now a massive lead. That means, +130 points more than the #2 song on the chart. So, unless something extraordinary happens or I stop hitting the replay button, expect it to stay on top for many more weeks to come.

US Charts: Billboard's Best Of 2011

Billboard has finally unveiled their year-end charts for 2011, and it comes to no surprise that women dominate the major categories, after all it's obvious that this was the year of Adele, Katy Perry and Rihanna, among other female artists who ruled the US charts this year. The overall big winner though, is British artist Adele.

For the first time, a woman earns three of Billboard's biggest year-end charts honors: No. 1 on Top Artists, the No. 1 Billboard 200 Album and the No. 1 Hot 100 song. The woman, of course, is Adele. The album: "21." The song: "Rolling in the Deep" (both on XL/Columbia).

Since Billboard added the top overall artist category to its year-end recaps in 1981, no woman has ever pulled off the triple crown win until this year.

Billboard's year-end music recaps are based on chart performance during the chart year that began with last year's charts dated Dec. 4 and ended with the Nov. 26, 2011 charts.

The Top Artists recap ranks the best-performing acts of the year derived from activity on the Billboard 200 albums tally and the Billboard Hot 100 singles list, as well as streaming, social, touring boxscore and ringtone data.

Once Again, It's Friendy Fires

A new chart week means another week at #1 for Friendly Fires as they rule both Top Songs and Top Albums once more with Hawaiian Air and Pala, respectively. Hawaiian Air extends it's stay at the top, having ruled the songs countdown now for 8 consecutive weeks, the longest stay at the top of that chart since Mariah Carey's Obsessed spent 9 weeks there in 2009. Pala, on the other hand, matches one of this year's biggest albums, Adele's 21, with 6 weeks at the top.

In fact, it's a static Top 3 on the Songs chart with Friendly Fires at #1 followed by Shake It Out by Florence + The Machine and My Body by Young The Giant still trying to get to the top. Adele › Rolling In The Deep

Adele seems to be one of those talents that I should definitely pay more attention to. Rolling In The Deep is the first song released from her new album titled 21, which is available starting this week in the American continent. Judging by this one, the very first song I've listened from her, I'm most likely going to be regretting not listening to her earlier work. That always turns out to be a good thing anyway.
