Gotye's Chart Domination

Last week I told about how Somebody That I Used To Know's lead on the Songs chart was so huge that it certainly guaranteed a lengthy stay at the top. Well, now the Gotye and Kimbra collaboration might even exceed my expectations as it scores it's third consecutive week of Greatest Gainer honors, and with the same amount of weeks at Number 1! As of this week the lead stands at +180 points over it's closest competitor.

And that competitor is obviously the #2 song on the chart, owned Flo Rida and his latest hit Good Feeling, which scores a new peak in its seventh week; as does Lana Del Rey closing the top three with Video Games. David Guetta and Michel Teló also get new peaks inside the top ten with the Sia-assisted Titanium at #6 and worldwide phenomenon Ai Se Eu Te Pego at #8, respectively. A prominent chart year for Sia is on the horizon as the Flo Rida collaboration for Wild Ones makes the Biggest Jump and stands at #26 in its third week. Friendly Fires rebound for more chart action as the title track from Pala is the Power Play song of the week, making a re-entry at #47. Meanwhile, Gotye scores his third chart entry so far with Eyes Wide Open as the Highest Debut at #81, followed by new songs from The Strokes (Metabolism - #87), The Kooks (Taking Pictures Of You - #88) and a chart first for St. Vincent who debuts at #96 with Cheerleader.

Lykke Li Still on Top, Foo Fighters Return

That's now two weeks at the top spot of the Songs Chart for Lykke Li with Love Out Of Lust and five consecutive for a female artist - the most so far in 2011 and the longest stay since last year's Teenage Dream by Katy Perry which spent seven weeks at #1.

As this week's Highest Debut we see Foo Fighters with Bridge Burning at #39, the beast opening track to their upcoming new album Wasting Light (coming out next week). This song marks a welcome return for the band to the chart since Word Forward went on to spend three weeks on top at exactly this time last year. More new entries include the Britney Spears / will.i.am collaboration Big Fat Bass at #66, a first for The Vaccines with Post Break-Up Sex at #70, also a first for Jim Jones and Clinton Sparks with Perfect Day debuting at #92, Call Me Back by The Strokes at #98 and two more entries for Lupe Fiasco with State Run Radio and Break The Chain at #69 and #95 respectively.

This week's Greatest Gainer track belongs to Brandon Flowers' Jilted Love & Broken Heart which reaches a new peak at #3 and also becomes his third Top 10 hit on the chart. Only The Young also reached #3 and more recently Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas went to #5. The Biggest Jump goes to Criminal by Britney Spears, which leaps 55 spots to #41 this week.

Adele Still Ruling UK Charts

Singer Adele is not only still ruling the UK charts but she has also matched Madonna's 21-year-old record for longest stay at the top of the albums chart with her album 21. What a nice coincidence.

The Strokes' new album 'Angles' has charted at Number Three in the UK albums chart today (March 27).

The album went in behind Adele's '21', which is Number One for the ninth week in a row. Her first album, '19', is at Number Two.

Adele is now the first female singer to stay at the albums top spot for so long since Madonna's 1990 run with 'The Immaculate Collection'.

Her single 'Someone Like You' has gone back to the peak of the singles chart, leapfrogging Nicole Scherzinger's 'Don't Hold Your Breath'.

Scherzinger's album 'Killer Love' went in at Number Eight.

Top 5 Remains Unchanged

It hasn't happened in quite a long time, probably since 2008 or 2009, but this week's Top 5 remains the same as last week's. Not only that, but Lykke Li claims the top two stops once again with I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) ruling for a third consecutive week. Love Out Of Lust remains at #2 as Greatest Gainer for second week in a row as well. And the Lykke Li domination continues this week as she also gets the Biggest Jump with Sadness Is A Blessing going #79 - #35 in it's second week on the chart.

The Highest Debut comes courtesy of The Strokes. Their return single Under Cover Of Darkness finally breaks the chart and bows at #46. More debuts include Benny Benassi's new single Cinema, featuring Gary Go. The Congorock Remix of that song debuts at #66. Lupe Fiasco sees two more songs chart as Coming Up and Beautiful Lasers enter at #68 and #78 respectively. Another remix song, The Magician Remix to Beni's It's A Bubble comes in at #95 while Duran Duran's Before The Rain does it one spot higher at #96.

The Strokes On 'SNL'

Last night's Saturday Night Live episode, hosted by Miley Cyrus, had The Strokes as musical guests. The band not only sang their current single Under Cover Of Darkness, but also debuted a new song titled Life Is Simple In The Moonlight. The song is the closing track on the band's fourth studio album, Angles, which is out on March 22nd. Watch both performances below:

The Strokes Finish New Album

It's been four years since the Strokes released their last record First Impressions of Earth, but the band has finally wrapped up recording their next album.

On his Twitter, Julian Casablancas posted an update on the band's progress: "Still not going to be out for a few months — mixing, etc, but JUST finally finished it yesterday actually!?"

The sessions have been a tedious process for the band. Last year, Julian Casablancas admitted the band had fought over the album's direction. "There is disagreement as to whether the songs are ready," he said. "Some of the band think they are and others don't. I'm somewhere in the middle." Still, the band overcame their differences and began laying down tracks in March, with Beck and White Stripes producer John Chicarelli.

The Strokes haven't offered any details on the album's overall sound, but expect it to sound similar to First Impressions. In March, Casablancas said, "It sounds more like the last record, but I may try to funk it up a little bit."
