UK Charts: Olly Murs & Amy Winehouse Hit #1

From TheOfficialCharts.com:
Olly Murs exchanges last week’s Official Albums Chart crown for this week’s Official Singles Chart title as single ‘Dance With Me Tonight’, released three weeks ago, climbs to the top spot having held at Number 2 for the previous two weeks. Olly was previously held off the Number 1 spot by Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ ft Calvin Harris (this week’s Number 4) and the 2011 X Factor Finalists ‘Wishing On A Star’ (this week’s Number 2).

Olly Murs can now claim six Official Charts Top 10 hits to his name including his previous Official Singles Chart Number 1s ‘Please Don’t Go’ (2010) and ‘Heart Skips A Beat’ ft Rizzle Kicks (2011) and last week’s Official Albums Chart Number 1, the aforementioned ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’.

Amy Winehouse flies to the top of this week’s Official Albums Chart and lands the biggest weekly sales tally of her career with ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ selling over 194,000 copies.

This also gives the singer one of the biggest first week album sales of the year behind only Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ (215,000), Coldplay’s ‘Mylo Xyloto’ (208,343) and Adele’s ‘21’ (208,090).

The 12 song collection, put together after the singer’s tragic death in July this year, features previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions of existing classics and new compositions. The album was compiled by her long-time musical partners, producers Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson, in close association with Amy’s family, management and record label, Island Records. It includes Amy’s final studio recording, Body & Soul, a duet with Tony Bennett which was made in March 2011 at Abbey Road. A donation of £1 from the sale of each album in the UK will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was launched on what would have been Amy’s 28th birthday, September 14th 2011.

US Charts: Billboard's Best Of 2011

Billboard has finally unveiled their year-end charts for 2011, and it comes to no surprise that women dominate the major categories, after all it's obvious that this was the year of Adele, Katy Perry and Rihanna, among other female artists who ruled the US charts this year. The overall big winner though, is British artist Adele.

From Billboard.com
For the first time, a woman earns three of Billboard's biggest year-end charts honors: No. 1 on Top Artists, the No. 1 Billboard 200 Album and the No. 1 Hot 100 song. The woman, of course, is Adele. The album: "21." The song: "Rolling in the Deep" (both on XL/Columbia).

Since Billboard added the top overall artist category to its year-end recaps in 1981, no woman has ever pulled off the triple crown win until this year.

Billboard's year-end music recaps are based on chart performance during the chart year that began with last year's charts dated Dec. 4 and ended with the Nov. 26, 2011 charts.

The Top Artists recap ranks the best-performing acts of the year derived from activity on the Billboard 200 albums tally and the Billboard Hot 100 singles list, as well as streaming, social, touring boxscore and ringtone data.

2011 Top Billboard Categories

Cee Lo Green › I Want You (Hold On To Love)

Cee Lo Green is back with another video release, and I say back because he recently re-released the Bright Lights Bigger City video to include a Wiz Khalifa cameo. This time he's come up with a funked up version of the album original, I Want You, dubbed as I Want You (Hold On To Love) and is expected to be the official fourth single off his critically acclaimed studio album The Lady Killer.

'Bright Light Bigger City' by Cee Lo Green Featuring Wiz Khalifa

The third song being released from Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer album is actually one of my favorites, if not my favorite. This single version is a bit different than the album cut, for which there was already a video and that was released last year around the same time the album came out. Rapper Wiz Khalifa lends a guest verse for an updated mix, which you can listen to below.

My verdict is that originals are always better. And just how better? Bright Lights Bigger City debuted on the Top Songs chart at #60 on November of last year, peaked at #3 eight weeks later and it's still going strong at #37 after 25 weeks. For the original video, click here.

Wiz Khalifa & Too Short › On My Level

They guy that brought us that infamous Black And Yellow song is back with the second single from his upcoming debut album Rolling Papers. The On My Level video made me dizzy just by watching. And not because it's fast paced or anything. It's quite the hypnotizing music type adorned with drugs, booze and hot women dancing around... you know, everyone's day to day routine. They did place the parental advisory for explicit content, so I don't feel so guilty for watching. Wiz Khalifa's debut album comes out on March 29th.

Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Juicy J & T-Pain › Black And Yellow (G-Mix)

I've been trying to steer away from this one but I think I might just give it a try, because Wiz Khalifa's Black And Yellow (G-Mix) with Snoop Dogg, Juicy J and T-Pain makes it more interesting. Actually, a T-Pain-less version would've been perfect. Not to mention he ruins the video with all that head-gear he's wearing, which might've worked better in the next Pirates Of The Caribbean movie... or Saw franchise.
