UK Charts: Coldplay Score First #1 Of 2012

From The Official Charts:
Coldplay’s ‘Paradise’ becomes the first Official Number 1 single of 2012. Originally released on October 30, ‘Paradise’ debuted at Number 14 before steadily climbing up the Official Singles Chart and peaking at Number 2 a week before Christmas. The track is taken from the band’s hugely successful fifth studio album, ‘Mylo Xyloto’, which set a new Official Charts record for the highest number of digital copies to be sold during an album’s first week of release.

Despite having five Number 1 albums, ‘Paradise’ is only Coldplay’s second Number 1 single, their first being ‘Viva La Vida’, which reached Number 1 in the Official Singles Chart in 2008.

Former X Factor contestant / Xtra Factor presenter Olly Murs is this week’s Number 2 with ‘Dance With Me Tonight’. ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ was kept off the Number 1 spot by Rihanna and Calvin Harris' ‘We Found Love’ when it was released on November 27, before climbing to the top spot two weeks later and earning Murs his third Official Number 1 single. Flo Rida’s ‘Good Feeling’ climbs seven places to this week’s Number 3, while last week’s Number 1, Military Wives with Gareth Malone, are this week’s Number 4. The group’s track, ‘Wherever You Are’, became the 60th Christmas Number 1 when it topped the Official Singles Chart last Sunday and has now sold over 631,000 copies.

Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ ‘We Found Love’ climbs five places to this week’s Number 5, while X Factor winners Little Mix’s cover of Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’ is this week’s Number 6. Ed Sheeran’s ‘Lego House’ is at Number 7, Labrinth and Tinie Tempah’s ‘Earthquake’ – which sound tracked last night’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in London – is at Number 8, LMFAO’s ‘Sexy And I Know It’ are at Number 9, and Rizzle Kicks’ ‘Mama Do The Hump’ completes this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10.

Coldplay's 'Mylo Xyloto' Album Cover(s)

One more week to go! In the meantime, is it the return of multiple album covers? I can't recall all of them but I know Beyoncé did it and Rihanna is also doing it. Take a look at the cover artwork for Coldplay's upcoming release Mylo Xyloto. And speaking of Rihanna, she'll also make a guest appearance on the band's album on the track titled Princess Of China.

Are You Ready for 'Mylo Xyloto'?

I've honestly never been excited about a Coldplay release, not even after getting their first album Parachutes back in 2000 and discovering one of my favorite bands to-date. It must be the anticipation of listening to the whole thing after getting some pretty solid tracks like Major Minus and Paradise. Don't judge me but I'm not a big fan of Every Tear Drop Is A Waterfall, for some reason or another. So, two things: 1) Are you ready for Mylo Xyloto? and 2) How the hell do you pronounce Mylo Xyloto??!

Pre-order Mylo Xyloto

Now that we talk Coldplay, they've had a good run with Major Minus so far on the Songs Chart, reaching as high as #5, which is where the song's at this early October, 14 weeks after its debut. Paradise, on the other hand, is at the early stages of its chart run, sitting at #63 in its second week, but with a big chance of going further up as we get closer to the album release.

Coldplay's Mini Concert on the 'Late Show'

David Letterman's Late Night recently presented Coldplay as part of the show's live presentation. The event took place on September 20th and just in time as the anticipation builds for the band's upcoming new album release Mylo Xyloto. The performance included new tunes, like current personal favorite Major Minus, as well as good old classics like Yellow, Fix You and Clocks. Watch the hour-long performance below.
