Don't you think that the key to a successful cover version of a song has got to be the ability of the artist to take said song an turn it into a completely different and unique experience? But in the right way! I know that sounds like a big cliché - or at least that's what reality TV talent shows have taught us all these years - but, really, there's no right for somebody to take a good song and basically destroy it for no apparent reason. Especially when you love that song. A bad rendition will make your stomach ache. But thankfully, there are those that take their time and really put their soul - read
soul as in "trademark style" - into it. Those that fall in this last category basically own it. Sometimes is so good, you'll think that it's even better than the original.
