The Killers To Release New Album

It's been a few years since The Killers released "Day & Age," but frontman Brandon Flowers confirmed that a new album will be released this year.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, the 30-year-old singer revealed that the band had recorded several songs for the new disc, being done in the band's own studio. "It's just whether it's [released in] the summertime or the wintertime," Flowers said.

One of the tracks is "Battle Born," Flowers says, calling it "a killer on the record."

The Las Vegas-based band's most recent album "Day & Age" was released in November 2008. The band went on a hiatus in 2010 following their world tour in support of Day & Age. During that time, Flowers released a solo album, Flamingo, in September 2010. Drummer Ronnie Vannucci also released a solo CD, Big Talk.

"It's just exciting getting everyone in the room to make some noise," he said.

Flowers mentioned the difference between The Killers' upcoming album and his solo effort, saying that the work-in-progress is "quite a bit louder than with my solo thing, so I've got to get used to that."

And while the band is forging ahead, Flowers said that the new album will be a mixture of sounds from their first three albums, but emphasized that they weren't actively looking to "throw a curveball."

"I think the consensus within the band is to take those things that we've done well and really hone in on that," Flowers said. "We don't want to make Hot Fuss 2 or Sam's Town 2, or Day & Age 2."

The Killers performed at Lollapalooza and Hyde Park this past summer.

Steve Lillywhite, who will be honored with the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) title, is producing the new album.

The Killers Talk Next Album

More than a year after the Killers went on hiatus, the Las Vegas rockers are reuniting this week at their hometown HQ -- Battle Born Studios, which they own -- to start work on their yet-to-be-titled next album, the follow-up to 2008's Day & Age.

"We're getting in a room to grease the machine. We've traded ideas for songs online and worked songs out during soundchecks [the band have been playing select dates this spring]," says drummer Ronnie Vannucci. "We have some songs written, plus some that haven't been released that are on the cutting room floor. The objective is to get in the room and see what we come up with."

While the Killers don't have an official release date for the LP, Vannucci jokes that "it'd be nice to have the album out before 2012 -- you know, before the world ends." A band spokesperson had no comment on Island Records' release schedule.

During the band's downtime, singer Brandon Flowers and Vannucci both recorded solo albums. But those side-projects won't alter the team dynamic of the Killers, says Vannucci: "When you're in a band that's a democracy, like this is... it's all about compromising and making something together."

Vannucci adds that the Killers are revitalized and ready to work together toward a single goal. "We want to make the best record ever with this one. Everybody's in that mind set of really focusing and putting the hammer down to make it happen."
