Lana Del Rey on Saturday Night Live

We have to do this. Where did all this scrutiny towards Lana Del Rey come from? I only first heard about her a month ago with the release of her video for Born To Die, which honestly didn't really catch my attention in the first place. But everyone seems to be having something to say. And it's been hard to escape, with her name popping up just about everywhere. While I don't usually fall for over-hyped artists, she just recently got me with the eerie, yet haunting Video Games. I can't really tell what it is, but there's definitely something quite appealing about what she's trying to represent with her Americana image and music. Is it real or just a well-marketed move? It's different. In my head, good different. Whatever it is, it's working. She's not only landed a spot on Saturday Night Live - with a performance which, for better or worse, has everyone talking - but her new album Born To Die is expected to be released at the end of this month. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, so time will tell. But with the airwaves filled with electronic beats and auto-tuned tunes, it certainly feels like a breath of fresh air.
