Cheryl Cole has beaten Rihanna to Number One in the UK singles chart tonight (October 31) after the pair both notched-up six-figure first-week sales.
The Girls Aloud singer sold over 157,000 copies of 'Promise This' to hit the top spot, edging out Rihanna's 'Only Girl (In The World)' by around 31,000 copies, according to the Official Charts Company.
The tracks are now the first and second biggest-selling first-week singles of the year, discounting charity releases - Helping Haiti's version of 'Everybody Hurts' notched up 400,000 first-week sales.
Other new entries included Peter Andre at Number 14 with 'Defender' and Devlin featuring Yasmin at Number 15 with 'Runaway'.
In the albums chart, Kings Of Leon stayed at Number One with 'Come Around Sundown', but there were no new entries in the Top 10.
Further down the chart, Elton John and Leon Russell's 'The Union' debuted at Number 12, while Bryan Ferry's new album 'Olympia' went in at Number 19.
